Fishing is King on Sanibel

I started getting the idea that Sanibel must be a great place for fishing holidays when more and more of our tenants have been curious holiday fishing in the area. Many of our tenants are from other parts of Florida renowned for fishing, but they chose to holiday on our small island in anticipation that they would catch. Not being a fisherman, I had no idea of the popularity in the waters around Sanibel are. They are popular habitats for all kinds of fish and all kinds of fisherman.

The advantage of abundant water for those of us who only like our fish cooked and served with a glass of white wine is that you can eat a wide variety of beautifully made and prepared fresh fish in local restaurants. For many local fish freshly caught, try wood, Melissa Sweet and Santiva Lazy Flamingo where grouper sandwiches will you thank all the fishermen out there working so hard to keep you happy and satisfied.

Talking with these athletes and the verification of information on thewww, I was impressed by the varieties of fish are and the claims made by the captains of fishing boats that catch was very assured.

This is the kind of fishing and the type of fish you can expect on and around the island:

Saltwater Fishing

Whether you're fishing from the beach, docks or bridges, or boat in the backcountry, inshore or offshore can provide a bonus fish. This area is known as a "fisherman's paradise." Fly fishing in saltwater and cons of light fishing are the fastest growing segments in the fisheries sector, and Lee County is considered the One of the biggest areas in Florida to continue this type of fishing. In fact, several world record fish have been caught in these waters.

Inshore fishing

Regarded as the capital of the country Tarpon, Lee County has year round fishing for tarpon, snook, redfish, spotted sea trout, sheep, Crevalle jack, mangrove snapper and many other varieties of fish. These gamesters can be caught along the mangrove shorelines, on the open flats, around bridges, piers, docks or wade fishing along the beaches or drifting the many passes and coves that lead to the Gulf of Mexico .

Offshore Fishing

The waters around Sanibel abound in the best grouper in Florida and are filled with sharks, bonito, barracuda, permit, blackfin tuna, cobia and king mackerel and Spanish. Sight-casting for tripletail gathered around floating objects quickly became a favorite among fishermen, and the flow lines around the natural or artificial reefs off the coasts of many.

Freshwater Fishing

Freshwater fishing is available all year. The species of fish most often targeted by fishermen are low, crappie, blue Gill, shellcrackers, catfish and oscars. Commonly used tackle includes cane, plug-casting reels, fly rods and reels, bait and range of live worms and shiners to plastic worms and crank baits. Popular areas include freshwater fishing freshwater canals in Cape Coral, the Caloosahatchee River and the lakes and ponds throughout Lee County. Some lakes and ponds are private property and permission is required for fishing.
